Urban Decay Fun Palette: Review and Swatches

Saturday 14 July 2012 16:18

Today's post is a quick look/swatch of Urban Decay's Fun palette. From my brief research, I discovered that this palette was brought out last year along with 2 others of the same size: the Dangerous palette and Feminine Palette. I have had trouble finding this palette on the websites of House of Fraser and other UD stockists so I have a feeling it isn't made anymore, although there are quite a few going on Amazon and Ebay for around £15-£20 if anybody is interesting in buying one. I got mine from Buyapowa.com last week for a bargain £12.50, I was so chuffed!

The Fun palette includes 6 eyeshadows, a mini original primer potion and a 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner Pencil. The eyeshadows are all a part of the permanent collection I think and I know for a fact that some of them are in other Urban Decay palettes, such as the Book of Shadows and Naked palettes. The packaging is gorgeous, with bright and bold colours and shapes reflective of the palette's 'fun' title!

As you can see (I hope!), the colours in this palette are 'Woodstock' (a hot pink/fuscia with shimmer), 'Baked' (bronze with shimmer), 'Uzi' (pearly white with huge glitter chunks), 'Sin' (soft champagne pink), 'Flipside' (teal with slight blue shimmer) and 'Psychedelic Sister' (deep purple). I have listed these colours in the order they are in inside the palette, as you can see in the images below.

The eyeliner that comes in the palette is in the shade 'Oil Slick', which is a lovely black base with silver glitter. I have tried this on my hand already and it does glide on nicely, but the glitter is quite chunky which might not be for everyone. Also, the black isn't as strong as in other black Urban Decay liners I have tried; I found that 'Zero' was the most pigmented and simple black that I have tried, but I do love 'Oil Slick' as it will be great for brightening up an eye look!

The mini Eyeshadow Primer Potion is the original nude shade, that I love completely. I already have the full sized bottle of this as I find my eyeshadows just do not stay on without it. It does a fantastic job, so I am pleased to have this extra mini one for when my full sized finally runs out (I've had it well over a year and use it regularly).

Below I have swatched everything for you, from left to right: 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner Pencil in 'Oil Slick', eyeshadows in 'Woodstock', 'Baked', Uzi', 'Sin', 'Flipside' and 'Psychedelic Sister'. There is a real variety of colours in this palette which is really handy. I have already managed to create quite a natural eyeshadow look using 'Sin' all over my lids and 'Woodstock' in the crease. 'Sin' is the perfect soft pink for a natural look and 'Woodstock' can be built up to look more vivid or used lightly for a more toned down look. All of the shadows are excellent quality and when applied are really well pigmented. I already have 'Baked' in the Book of Shadows Volume 1 and it still doesn't disappoint, it is such a perfect colour that could work well when incorporated in both a neutral look or a more 'fun' look. 'Uzi' is the only one I am not sure about, as the glitter is huge! It has a great deal of fall-out when applied, but is undoubtedly a beautiful colour. I also already have 'Flipside' in my Urban Decay Foreshadow palette, but again I love it, it is so bright and pigmented and is just a gorgeous colour that would be fabulous for summer. Finally, 'Psychedelic Sister' is quite dramatic, with strong pigmentation. It looks beautiful with deep black eyeliner I find!

I am really pleased with this palette. I think the range of colours is fantastic, the shadows are of excellent quality and the packaging is simply perfect! I would love to know what anybody else thinks of this, or the other palettes in the series ('Dangerous' and 'Feminine') if anybody owns one of those?

So there you have it! I might do some looks and tutorials with this palette if anybody would fancy that? I am sorry I can't be better help as to where to buy it from, but as I said, there are lots on Ebay and Amazon so it can be found! :)

  3. I'm pretty sure my sister got this for Christmas, I regret not buying it in the sales afterwards! Really pretty colours, and a good selection - sometimes it's good to have a few completely different colours in one place so you have a versatile palette.
