Rimmel Apocalips Review and Swatches: 'Galaxy', 'Big Bang' and 'Apocalyptic'

Wednesday, 27 February 2013 16:49

Today I have a post I've been really excited to write for you, a review of Rimmel's hyped lip lacquers the Apocalips. Usually if I have more than one shade of one product I write reviews for them separately, but from trying them out so far, all of the shades wear the same so it is just their colours that differ so separate reviews seem a little unnecessary. The shades I have are 'Galaxy', 'Apocalyptic' and 'Big Bang'.

The Apocalips are describes as lacquers and I would agree with that, as they apply almost like a thick gloss but are extremely highly pigmented. When I first saw them and the soft applicator they come with I thought they might be like a kind of lip cream comparable to Miners 'The Matte Factor' but they aren't really as they have such a gorgeous glossy finish.

I don't think I have ever tried a more pigmented lip product! One coat is more than enough and the staying power is incredible. To try and give you an idea of just how good it is; I wore 'Big Bang' whilst I ate a Nando's meal and it hardly shifted at all which is amazing.

L-R: 'Galaxy', 'Apocalyptic' and 'Big Bang'

As I mentioned before, the shades I currently own are 'Galaxy', 'Apocalyptic' and 'Big Bang'. I bought 'Big Bang' first, which is a super bold red colour and is possibly my favourite shade of red that I own. As I loved that one so much, I bought 'Apocalyptic' and 'Galaxy' with my Boots points, so they technically cost me nothing! 'Apocalyptic' is a beautiful bright red-toned pink, perfect for a bold look. Finally, 'Galaxy' was a shade that I picked up because I thought it was a little more neutral than my other choices and might be good for everyday wear, which it definitely has lived up to. It is a kind of purple-toned berry shade that actually applies fairly dark, but I love it!

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this review or that you found it useful. The Apocalips are available from Boots for £5.99 each, which I think is a bargain. I would love to know what you think to the Apocalips- do you think they lived up to the hype? I definitely do!

  1. I have apocaliptic and it's really bright and bold i don't think a paley like me suits it. However i think its a nice shade for a night out just a little bright for day time. I think i may look for a neutral shade when i go to purchase one. Or try something completely new.
